By now we’re well aware of how the latest hearing technology has the power to not only help us hear better, but also simplify our lives. But did you know there is also an innovation that can make it easier and more convenient than ever to stay on top of your individual hearing needs? And best of all, it’s as close as your My Starkey app—TeleHear.
What is TeleHear?
TeleHear is a My Starkey app feature that allows you to get sound adjustments made to your hearing aids by your hearing care professional from the comfort of your home. Or wherever you are.
With TeleHear, you can attend a virtual appointment (or “remote session”) with your professional via video chat. The professional can then make (and sync) the necessary adjustments to your hearing aids—no office visit needed.
So, whether you’re having a problem with sound quality or need a program fine-tuned for dining out, TeleHear helps ensure you always have that all-important continuity of care—particularly crucial when health conditions or life situations make it difficult to visit your hearing care professional in person.
And here’s a bonus—it’s easy to use. Let’s walk you through:
Set up TeleHear (it’s simple)
Before using TeleHear, you’ll want to make sure you have the My Starkey app set up on your smartphone or other smart device. If you don’t, just follow these easy setup steps.
Once you have the My Starkey app, you’re ready to set up TeleHear. Start by opening TeleHear on your app: From your My Starkey Home screen, select More, and then TeleHear.
TeleHear will soon ask you to enter a one-time access code from your hearing care professional. Simply reach out to them to get it. Typing this code in the fields provided instantly establishes the connection between you, your hearing care professional, and TeleHear. So, the professional will be able to communicate with you through TeleHear, plus access your hearing aids to make remote adjustments.
That's it. You're now ready to use TeleHear.
(Note: TeleHear will offer you the choice of allowing the professional to access your hearing aids solely to adjust them, or to adjust them and be able to view your hearing aid usage and interactions. Choose whichever option you prefer—you can change it anytime.)
How to use TeleHear
Follow these steps to attend a virtual appointment via video chat with your hearing care professional.
- Set up your remote session
Reach out to your professional to set up a date and time for your TeleHear remote session.
On the day of the remote session:
- Ensure your hearing aids are connected
Confirming your hearing aids are connected to your smart device will allow the professional to access and adjust them through TeleHear.
- Head to TeleHear
From your My Starkey app Home screen, select More, and then TeleHear.
- Start your remote session
On the TeleHear screen, select the name of the hearing care professional with whom you will be having your remote session. To begin your session, simply select Start session.
Your virtual appointment will now begin. (If you allowed access to the camera of your smart device, you and your professional should be able to see each other. If not, the session will be a voice call.) This is a great opportunity to communicate your hearing needs to the professional or ask questions as they adjust your hearing aids.
Need help using TeleHear? That’s easy, too
