Today is National Bird Day. And if you’re wondering why a hearing healthcare company would pay any mind to that, it’s because of the fact in the graphic below — birds can never go permanently deaf.
According to an article posted in Stanford Medicine’s Scope blog, the reason birds can’t permanently lose their hearing is because the “sensory hair cells in the inner ear essential for hearing simply grow back” if damaged.
Sadly, our sensory hair cells don’t grow back if damaged. Which is why humans can permanently lose their hearing.
Lucky birds. Oh yeah, and they can fly. That’s pretty cool, too.
Happy National Bird Day!
