The acting director of the Centers for Disease Control, Anne Schuchat, M.D., recently wrote an article about her own father’s hearing loss. Her father, a U.S. Navy veteran, suffered from hearing loss, in part due to extensive noise exposure during his military career.
His generation didn’t know what we know today about the perils of noise exposure. Thus, they didn’t make much effort to protect their hearing — which was the point of her article: knowing what we now know about how hearing loss impacts our relationships, job, physical and mental health, and overall quality of life, it’s imperative we protect our hearing as much as possible.
Dr. Schuchat then went on to suggest four simple and inexpensive tips, including today’s Hearing Fact Friday.
