It’s well established that communication and listening are cornerstones to successful relationships — especially romantic ones. When communication is hampered in any way, it can lead to feelings of frustration, anxiety and isolation.
Unaddressed, hearing loss can obviously hamper communication and listening. It has the ability to negatively affect both parties of a relationship in numerous ways.
The person with hearing loss may deal with feelings of exclusion or that others are judging them, and intentionally withdraw from social and interactive situations.
For the loved one/friend/colleague, they may feel they aren’t being listened to. They may become frustrated at having to repeat themselves or deal with loud TVs. They may worry that miscommunication could affect a work project or other duty. And, of course, they worry for the person with untreated hearing loss.
One easy way to help ensure that communication and listening aren’t physically hampered is to treat hearing loss. As last year’s WebMD survey confirms, it results in good things.
